Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Health & Wellness Coach?

The National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) defines a health & wellness coach as a partner working with clients looking to enhance their well-being through self-directed lasting changes, aligned with their values. In the course of their work, health & wellness coaches display unconditional positive regard for their clients and a belief in their ability to change, honoring the fact that each client is an expert on their own life while ensuring that all interactions are respectful and non-judgmental. Health & wellness coaches train in behavior change theories, motivational strategies, and health education and promotion theories. They use these to support the client in creating and sustaining change for improved health and well-being.

What Does Working with a Health & Wellness Coach Look Like?

Working with a health & wellness coach is a highly personalized journey centered around your goals. You steer the ship while your coach fosters meaningful conversations, explores your unique desires, motivations, inner strengths, and wisdom to help you envision and achieve your goals, all within an environment of unconditional support. This process may involve assessments, goal setting, tracking your progress, celebrating victories, and implementing strategies to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

What Does Health & Wellness Coaching NOT Include?

Health & Wellness Coaches do not diagnose, treat, interpret medical data, prescribe medications, recommend supplements, offer nutritional consultations, design meal plans, provide exercise prescriptions, or offer psychological therapy. Their role is to guide and support you on your path to better health and well-being.

How Can Health & Wellness Coaching Benefit Me?

Health & Wellness Coaching serves as the foundation for making positive, lasting changes in behavior, and it can be applied to a wide range of areas. Whether it's nutrition, weight management, physical activity, sleep, stress, mindfulness, or other aspects of well-being. From time to time, most people experience a gap between knowing what they have to do and actually doing it. Coaches help cross that gap not by providing advice or therapy but by fostering a collaborative and supportive relationship.

How Often Do We Need to Meet?

The frequency of meetings varies based on your unique circumstances and goals. Typically, meeting weekly for 3 months or bi-weekly for 6 months works well. If you have any questions or concerns about scheduling, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Do I Have to Have a Rare Chronic Health Problem to Work with You?

No, not at all. Health & Wellness Coaching is beneficial for anyone at any stage of life. Taking a proactive approach to your well-being can have substantial benefits for your future health.
